Mount Pearl
Mount Pearl is the second largest city in the province, located right next to St. John’s, the provincial capital. The city has a population of 24,671, and experienced a very slight population decline of -1.2% since 2001. The median age is 38.6 years. There are over 9,600 private dwellings in the city. More than 45% are single detached homes, but a proportion of the dwellings are apartments (34.5%). Median income in 2005 was $57,441, which is higher than the median income for the province as a whole. The majority of residents are employed in the services industries. Just over 28% of residents work in Mount Pearl, while about 70% of residents commute outside of the city for work (Statistics Canada 2006 Census).
